Embroidered vs PVC Patches: Which Is Better?
Short answer: choose embroidered when you want a classic stitched texture on apparel, and choose PVC when the patch has to survive rain, mud and hard outdoor use.
Both patch types do the same job, which is putting your logo on something people wear or carry. They just get there in completely different ways. Embroidered patches are stitched from real thread onto a fabric base. PVC patches are molded from a flexible, rubber-like material.
That single difference drives everything else: how the patch feels, how much detail it holds, how it handles weather and how it sits on the garment.

Embroidered patches: stitched texture you can feel
Thread is stitched into a fabric backing, so the design sits slightly raised. Run a thumb across it and you feel the direction of the stitches. That texture is the reason embroidered patches still read as premium on jackets, caps and uniforms.
Detail level
Thread has a physical thickness, so very fine hairlines and very small text can soften. Bold marks, crests, monograms and standard lettering reproduce cleanly. If your artwork is packed with tiny detail, woven is usually the better match than either option here.
Feel and flexibility
Because the base is fabric, an embroidered patch moves with the garment. It is the more natural choice for anything soft and worn close to the body.
PVC patches: built for weather and gear
PVC patches are molded rather than stitched, which produces crisp raised edges and solid blocks of color. The material is waterproof, so rain, sweat, mud and sun exposure are not a problem, and the surface wipes clean.
Detail level
Molding holds sharp outlines and layered 2D or 3D relief. Colors stay flat and saturated rather than blended, which suits emblems, unit markings and logo shapes with defined borders.
Feel and flexibility
PVC bends easily but is firmer than fabric. On a heavy bag, jacket or plate carrier that is an advantage. On a lightweight tee it can feel more noticeable than embroidery.

Backing choices for both
Backing is a separate decision from patch type, and both embroidered and PVC can be ordered with different attachment options, including iron-on, sew-on and hook-and-loop (often called Velcro).
