Custom Patch Size Chart by Garment and Placement

Every placement has its own comfortable range. Use this chart to see the approximate patch size that fits caps, shirts, jackets, sleeves, uniforms, workwear, bags, vests, and motorcycle apparel before you commit to dimensions.

All sizes are approximate. After reviewing your artwork, the 6Six Needles team will fine-tune the final Width × Height during the mockup process for the best balance, placement, and production result.

Headwear6
  • Cap Front

    2.25″–2.75″ high

Crown panels limit height, so wide, short layouts stitch cleanest.

  • Cap Side

    Approx. 2.5″ W × 1.25″ H

A compact accent area for small marks, initials, or short text.

  • Cap Back

    Approx. 2.75″ W × 1.25″ H

Sits above the closure, so keep the design short and simple.

  • Beanie / Cap Cuff

    Approx. 3.5″ W × 1.5″ H

The folded cuff is shallow, so horizontal artwork works best.

  • Visor Front

    Approx. 2.5″ W × 1.25″ H

A very shallow strip; small lettering and simple icons read best.

  • Bucket Hat Front

    2.25″–2.75″ high

Soft, unstructured panel with a similar usable area to a cap front.

  • Left / Right Chest

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

The classic branding spot for logos and compact lockups.

  • Center Chest

Up to about 6″ (longest side)

A bolder statement area that still keeps the garment balanced.

  • Full Front

Up to about 12″ (longest side)

Room for large graphics, arcs, and multi-line lettering.

  • Jacket Front

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Heavier fabric supports slightly larger chest patches.

  • Left / Right Sleeve

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Narrow and curved, so compact marks work better than detailed art.

  • Shoulder / Uniform

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Standard shoulder position for unit, agency, and team patches.

  • Pocket

Up to about 3.25″ (longest side)

Keep the design inside the pocket seams for a clean finish.

  • Name Patch / Workwear

    Approx. 4.5″ W × 1.5″ H

A short horizontal strip built for names and job titles.

  • Upper Back / Yoke

    Approx. 10″ W × 4″ H

Wide and short, ideal for company names and arched text.

  • Center Back Neck / Locker Patch

    Approx. 3″ W × 1.5″ H

A small tag-style detail just below the collar.

  • Jacket / Hoodie Full Back

Up to about 12″ (longest side)

The largest apparel area for full logos and statement graphics.

Vests & Motorcycle Apparel4
  • Vest Front

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Chest position for name tags, rank, and small emblems.

  • Vest Back

Up to about 12″ (longest side)

The main panel, usually paired with top and bottom rockers.

  • Motorcycle Jacket Front

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Sized to sit beside zippers and pockets without crowding.

  • Motorcycle Jacket Back

Up to about 12″ (longest side)

Center emblem area; plan rocker spacing around it.

Shorts & Pants5
  • Shorts Hip

Up to about 3″ (longest side)

A subtle side-hip placement for compact brand marks.

  • Upper Thigh

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Highly visible while standing; keep artwork balanced.

  • Shorts Vertical Leg

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Suits tall, narrow artwork running down the leg.

  • Sweatpants Vertical Leg

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

Vertical lockups and stacked lettering work well here.

  • Large Side Leg

Up to about 4″ (longest side)

The biggest leg area, best for bold shapes over fine detail.

Other Items6
  • Bag / Backpack

Up to about 6″ (longest side)

Flat front panels allow a larger, more visible patch.

  • Towel

Up to about 5″ (longest side)

Corner placement stays visible when the towel is folded.

  • Apron Chest
