Our sizing guide uses an approximate placement area of up to 4″ × 2.25″ for this spot. Wider artwork usually reads better here than taller artwork.

What changes the size
Crown height matters
Structured mid and high-profile caps carry a taller design than a soft dad hat. If you already know the blank you are using, tell us and we'll size to that cap.
Artwork shape
Wide, horizontal marks translate best. Circles, shields and tall crests all spend their space on height, so they finish smaller than people expect on a cap front.
Text inside the design
Taglines and est. dates are the first things to become hard to read. We flag anything borderline in the mockup and suggest a size or layout change instead of guessing.
Patch or direct embroidery?
A patch is made separately and applied to the cap, so detail holds well at small sizes. Direct embroidery is stitched into the cap itself and is limited by the crown and seams. What size patch fits the front of a hat?
A practical starting size for a cap-front patch is around 3 inches wide by 1.75 inches tall. Our sizing guide uses an approximate cap-front placement area of up to 4 by 2.25 inches, with final size confirmed during mockup review. Height runs out before width does, because the front panels curve away from the crown seam.
Does the cap style change the size?
Yes. Low-profile and dad hats have a shallower crown than mid or high-profile caps, so the same artwork often needs less height on them. Tell us the cap you plan to use and we'll size to it.
Can a round logo work on a cap front?
It can, but a circle uses your height budget first. A round mark usually ends up smaller than a wide one, so lettering inside the circle is the part to watch.
How small can text on a hat patch go?
There is no single cutoff. It depends on the letterforms, the patch type and the size we land on. We check readability during mockup review and tell you before anything is produced.
