Is it real leather or vegan leather?
Both are offered. Genuine leather and vegan leather are available as material choices, and the one you pick is confirmed on your mockup before production.
Leather Patches for Caps
A leather patch is the quickest way to give a cap a clean, premium look. We make custom leather patches from your logo, engraved or debossed into genuine or vegan leather and cut to the shape you choose, from 5 pieces. You see a free digital mockup before you pay anything.
Genuine leather has natural grain and slight variation from hide to hide. It darkens and softens with wear, which is a big part of why leather patch hats look good after a season outdoors. Many brands choose it for that character.
Vegan leather gives a more uniform surface and suits brands that prefer to avoid animal products. Both take an engraved or debossed mark well. Tell us which one you want when you send your artwork, and the choice is confirmed on your mockup.
Laser engraved: the laser removes a thin layer of the surface so the design shows as a darker burn. It holds fine lines and small text well and is the most common look on leather patch hats.
Debossed: the design is pressed into the leather, leaving a recessed mark you can feel. It is subtle and tonal, and best for bold shapes and simple logos.
Full-color designs: engraving and debossing are tonal, so we do not position leather for multi-color artwork. If your logo depends on color, a printed patch, embroidered patch or PVC patch will show it better. The leather vs embroidered comparison walks through the trade-offs.
Cap fronts are short, so height is the number that matters. A front-panel patch between 2.25″ and 2.75″ high reads well, with 2.5″ as the recommended starting point. Width follows your artwork, so a wide wordmark becomes a wide rectangle and a round badge stays round.
Instant pricing covers patches up to 4″ on the longest side, which comfortably includes cap-front sizes. See the hat patch size chart for side and back placements.
Sewn on is the most durable method and the standard for leather patch hats sold at retail. Stitching around the edge keeps the patch flat on a curved front panel and survives sweat, sun and years of wear.
Heat-applied patches use an iron-on / heat seal backing and a heat press with a curved hat platen. It is faster for runs of caps, but leather needs care: too much heat can scorch genuine leather or mark vegan leather, so test on a spare cap first. Many decorators heat-tack the patch to position it and then stitch the edge.
Hook-and-loop and adhesive backings are also available if the cap already has a loop panel or the patch is for display. Our guide to how to put a patch on a hat covers each method step by step.
Trucker caps have a structured foam or twill front with mesh behind, which gives a firm, flat surface for a leather patch. This is the most popular pairing.
Structured caps (6-panel with buckram behind the front) hold their shape so the patch sits smoothly and keeps its edges crisp.
Dad hats and other unstructured caps have a soft front that curves more. A slightly smaller patch, toward the lower end of the size range, sits better and avoids rippling.
Spot clean rather than machine washing. Wipe the leather with a damp cloth, let it air dry away from direct heat, and avoid soaking the patch. Genuine leather can be treated occasionally with a leather conditioner; test on the edge first because it can darken the color. Keep caps out of hot car dashboards for long periods, as heat dries leather out.

Both are offered. Genuine leather and vegan leather are available as material choices, and the one you pick is confirmed on your mockup before production.
For the front panel, a height between 2.25″ and 2.75″ reads well, with 2.5″ as the recommended starting point. Width follows the proportions of your artwork.
Engraved and debossed leather is tonal by nature, so it is not the right construction when the design depends on several distinct colors. For color-led artwork, printed, embroidered or PVC patches serve the design better.
Every custom patch type starts at 5 pieces: embroidered, woven, printed, chenille, leather, PVC and glow-in-the-dark PVC. Larger quantities simply lower your per-piece price.
We make the patches. You choose the backing that suits how they will be attached: sew-on, iron-on / heat seal, adhesive or hook-and-loop. Most hat makers and decorators stitch leather patches on for the longest life.
You review and approve your free digital mockup before paying. After payment, we make a real sample and send you a photo of it to approve before the full production run begins.
