Embroidery Size Chart: Stitch Areas by Placement
Thread behaves differently from print, and every sewing area has its own limits. This chart shows the approximate embroidery area for caps, chest placements, sleeves, jacket backs, pockets, uniforms, bags, towels, aprons, and youth apparel.
All sizes are approximate. After reviewing your artwork, the 6Six Needles team will fine-tune the final Width × Height during the mockup process for the best balance, placement, and production result.

Cap Front
Approx. 4″ W × 2.5″ H
Profile matters: low-profile and dad hats allow less height than mid or high-profile caps. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 2.5″ H. Large field up to approx. 4.5″ W × 2.75″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Cap Side
Approx. 2″ W × 1″ H
A narrow accent panel for initials, small icons, and short words. Standard embroidery field approx. 2.5″ W × 1.25″ H. Larger sizes are possible after machine and hoop review.
Cap Back
Approx. 2.25″ W × 1″ H
Shallow strip above the closure; keep lettering short. Standard embroidery field approx. 3″ W × 1.25″ H. Larger sizes are possible after machine and hoop review.
Cap Front: 3D Puff
Approx. 4″ W × 2.5″ H
Puff needs bold shapes and thicker lettering to hold its raised edge. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 2.5″ H. Large field up to approx. 4.5″ W × 2.75″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Beanie / Cap Cuff
Approx. 3.5″ W × 1.5″ H
Stretch fabric, so horizontal designs hold their shape best. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 1.75″ H. Large field up to approx. 5″ W × 1.75″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.

Left / Right Chest
Approx. 3.5″ W × 3.5″ H
The standard corporate placement for logos and compact lockups. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 4″ H. Large field up to approx. 4.5″ W × 4.5″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Center Chest
Approx. 3.5″ W × 3.5″ H
A larger, centered area for bolder branding. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 4″ H. Large field up to approx. 5″ W × 5″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Full Front
Approx. 4″ W × 4″ H
Best for large graphics; heavy fills may need a stabilizer. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 4″ H. Large field up to approx. 10″ W × 6″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Pocket
Approx. 3″ W × 3″ H
Keep stitching inside the pocket seams. Standard embroidery field approx. 3.25″ W × 3.25″ H. Larger sizes are possible after machine and hoop review.
Name / Text
Approx. 4″ W × 1″ H
Text needs enough height per letter to stay readable in thread. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 1.5″ H. Larger sizes are possible after machine and hoop review.
Sleeves & Back3
Left / Right Sleeve
Approx. 3″ W × 3″ H
Curved and narrow, so simple marks stitch cleanest. Standard embroidery field approx. 3″ W × 3″ H. Large field up to approx. 4″ W × 4″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Upper Back / Yoke
Approx. 4″ W × 2″ H
Wide and short; ideal for company names and arched text. Standard embroidery field approx. 6″ W × 3″ H. Large field up to approx. 8″ W × 4″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.
Jacket Back / Full Back
Approx. 10″ W × 10″ H
The largest embroidery area available on apparel. Standard embroidery field approx. 12″ W × 12″ H. Larger sizes are possible after machine and hoop review.

Approx. 4″ W × 4″ H
Flat panels stitch better than padded or ribbed sections. Standard embroidery field approx. 4″ W × 4″ H. Large field up to approx. 5″ W × 5″ H where the garment, hoop and machine support it.

Cap Front Profile Guidance
Crown height changes how much room a cap front really has. Use the profile closest to your cap when you set the final height.
Low Profile / Dad Hat
Shallow crown, so favor width and keep the height modest.
Mid Profile / Baseball Cap
Balanced crown that suits most standard cap-front logos.
High Profile / Trucker Cap
Taller crown allows the fullest cap-front area.
