6Six Needles Embroidery Placement Size Chart

Thread behaves differently from print, and every sewing area has its own limits. This chart shows the approximate embroidery area for caps, chest placements, sleeves, jacket backs, pockets, uniforms, bags, towels, aprons, and youth apparel.

All sizes are approximate. After reviewing your artwork, the 6Six Needles team will fine-tune the final Width × Height during the mockup process for the best balance, placement, and production result.

Headwear5
  • Cap Front

    Approx. 4″ W × 2.25″ H

Profile matters: low-profile and dad hats allow less height than mid or high-profile caps.

  • Cap Side

    Approx. 2.5″ W × 1″ H

A narrow accent panel for initials, small icons, and short words.

  • Cap Back

    Approx. 2.75″ W × 1″ H

Shallow strip above the closure; keep lettering short.

  • Cap Front — 3D Puff

    Approx. 4″ W × 2.25″ H

Puff needs bold shapes and thicker lettering to hold its raised edge.

  • Beanie / Cap Cuff

    Approx. 3.5″ W × 1.5″ H

Stretch fabric — horizontal designs hold their shape best.

Chest & Front5
  • Left / Right Chest

    Approx. 3.5″ W × 3.5″ H

The standard corporate placement for logos and compact lockups.

  • Center Chest

    Approx. 6″ W × 6″ H

A larger, centered area for bolder branding.

  • Full Front

    Approx. 10″ W × 12″ H

Best for large graphics; heavy fills may need a stabilizer.

  • Pocket

    Approx. 3.25″ W × 3.25″ H

Keep stitching inside the pocket seams.

  • Name / Text

    Approx. 4″ W × 1″ H

Text needs enough height per letter to stay readable in thread.

Sleeves & Back3
  • Left / Right Sleeve

    Approx. 3.5″ W × 3.5″ H

Curved and narrow — simple marks stitch cleanest.

  • Upper Back / Yoke

    Approx. 10″ W × 4″ H

Wide and short; ideal for company names and arched text.

  • Jacket Back / Full Back

    Approx. 12″ W × 10″ H

The largest embroidery area available on apparel.

Other Items5
  • Bag / Backpack

    Approx. 5″ W × 5″ H

Flat panels stitch better than padded or ribbed sections.

  • Towel

    Approx. 5″ W × 5″ H

Looped terry fabric favors bold shapes over fine detail.

  • Apron

    Approx. 6″ W × 6″ H

Upper chest or full front, depending on pocket position.

  • Youth Apparel

    Approx. 3″ W × 3″ H

Scaled down to stay proportional on smaller garments.

  • Custom / Other

Cap Front Profile Guidance

Crown height changes how much room a cap front really has. Use the profile closest to your cap when you set the final height.

  • Low Profile / Dad Hat

Shallow crown — favor width and keep height conservative.

  • Mid Profile / Baseball Cap

Balanced crown that suits most standard cap-front logos.

  • High Profile / Trucker Cap

Taller crown allows the fullest cap-front area.

  • Not Sure

We'll confirm the best cap-front size during mockup review.

Get dimensions matched to your artwork

The Embroidery Digitizing Advisor keeps your design's proportions and fits them inside the placement you choose, so a wide logo stays wide and a tall crest stays tall.
