Barcode & SKU Generator

Create SKUs from your brand, category, color and size (one at a time or for a whole line), plus a barcode for your own stock system.

Letters and numbers only; each part is trimmed to 6 characters so SKUs stay short and scannable.

Your SKU

Code 128 barcode for internal use: shelves, bins, packing slips and stock counts.

Branding the product itself?

Custom woven labels carry your brand name and size into every garment. They don't replace official retail barcodes.

SKU, barcode, UPC: what's the difference?

  • SKU: your internal code, like SN-TEE-BLK-L-001. You create it, so this tool can build it for you.
  • Barcode: a scannable picture of a code. The Code 128 barcode here encodes your SKU for internal scanning.
  • UPC / EAN: official product numbers that big retailers and many marketplaces require. They come from GS1 (GS1 US or GS1 UK), not from this tool.

How to build a SKU system

Decide the order of parts once and stick to it. Start with a short brand prefix, then category, optional style, color and size, then a running number. Use the same abbreviations everywhere: BLK for black, not BLK on one product and BLA on the next.

Common mistakes

  • Putting prices or dates in a SKU. They change, but the SKU shouldn't.
  • Reusing a retired SKU for a different product.
  • Making codes so long they're hard to read on a packing slip.

Frequently asked questions

Is a SKU the same as a UPC or EAN?

No. A SKU is your own internal code for tracking stock, and you can format it however you like. A UPC (common in the U.S.) or EAN (common in the UK and Europe) is a globally unique product number that retailers and marketplaces use. Those numbers are licensed through GS1.

Can I use these barcodes on retail packaging?

These Code 128 barcodes are meant for internal use: shelves, bins, packing slips and stock counts. If a retailer or marketplace asks for a UPC or EAN, you'll need GS1-issued numbers. This tool doesn't issue them.

What makes a good SKU?

Keep it short, consistent and readable: a fixed order of parts (brand, category, color, size), letters and numbers only, and no characters that look alike, such as O and 0, where you can avoid them.

Can I make SKUs for a whole product line?

Yes. Turn on the color-and-size option, list your colors and sizes, and the tool numbers every combination. You can copy them or download a CSV for Shopify, Etsy or a spreadsheet.

Is my product data saved?

No. Everything is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to our servers.
