Custom Fire Department Patches That Tell Your Crew’s Story

Every Firehouse Has a Story. Your Patch Should Tell It.

Every station has something that makes it different.

Maybe it’s the number on the engine. The nickname your crew has carried for years. Or an emblem that means more to your firefighters than anyone outside the firehouse could understand.

Whatever makes your department yours, we can help turn it into a custom patch worth wearing.

From classic embroidered fire department patches to bold PVC fire rescue designs, we’ll help bring your vision to life.

The story behind the patch

It’s More Than a Patch. It’s Your Firehouse.

Ask a firefighter about their station patch, and there’s usually a story behind it.

A number that represents home.

A symbol that generations of firefighters have recognized.

A nickname that somehow became part of the whole department’s identity.

It’s a little piece of the firehouse that goes wherever your crew goes.

And when the design matters that much, the details matter too.

At 6Six Needles, we help turn department artwork, sketches and ideas into patches that capture the character of the crew behind them.

Your station already has a story. Let’s give it a patch.

Bring Our Design to Life

Patch types

One Department. Four Ways to Bring Its Story to Life.

Not every firehouse patch needs the same finish.

Some designs deserve that familiar raised thread. Others need sharper lettering, molded detail or the flexibility of full-color printing.

Here’s how to find the right match.

01 · Embroidered

The Classic Firehouse Look. For Good Reason.

There’s something about traditional embroidery that just feels right on a station jacket.

The raised thread, bold borders and textured finish give embroidered fire department patches the timeless look firefighters know.

Best for: Department emblems, station patches, uniform sleeves and bold traditional designs.

02 · PVC

A Bold New Look for Firehouse Gear.

Want something with clean dimensional detail and a molded finish?

Custom PVC firefighter patches are a strong option for bags, removable identifiers and firehouse accessories.

Best for: Gear bags, hook-and-loop patch panels, bold station emblems and casual accessories.

03 · Woven

When the Smallest Details Matter.

Tiny station lettering? Fine outlines? A design with details you don’t want to lose?

Woven patches provide a flatter, tightly woven finish that can reproduce finer elements than traditional embroidery in many designs.

Best for: Compact department emblems, fine lettering and detailed identifiers.

04 · Printed / Sublimated

Big Ideas. Every Color. All the Details.

Some designs have too many colors or intricate elements for traditional thread construction.

Printed patches allow detailed multicolor artwork and gradients to remain part of the finished design.

Best for: Illustrated department emblems, commemorative artwork and intricate full-color designs.

Milestones

Anniversary & Commemorative Patches

Some milestones deserve more than a date on a calendar.

Celebrate your department’s history with a patch that makes the occasion memorable.

Sizes & backings

The Perfect Patch Starts With the Right Fit.

A great design can lose its impact if the patch is too small, too crowded or just doesn’t fit the uniform.

The right size depends on where it will go, how much detail it contains and your department’s uniform guidelines.

Recommended Starting Points

Shoulder patches
Commonly around 3 to 4 inches, depending on the garment and your department’s policy.
Left chest
Approximately 2.5 to 3.5 inches, depending on the design.
Name strips
Dimensions are set by the lettering and the placement.
Cap front
About 2.5 inches high as a starting point, with the width following your artwork.
Large custom pieces
Anything over 4 inches on the longest side is quoted individually; we email your custom price within 6 to 10 hours.

See every placement in the custom patch size chart, or check your artwork with the Actual Size Visualizer.

Which Backing Works Best?

  • Sew-On

A practical permanent option for suitable uniform shirts and station jackets.

  • Hook & Loop

Good for compatible gear panels or removable identifiers.

  • Iron-On / Heat Seal

Suitable only for compatible nonprotective fabrics and applications.

Important: Our patches and backings are not NFPA certified, flame resistant or approved for structural firefighting PPE. Please follow your department’s uniform and protective-equipment requirements.

Questions Before You Get Started? We’ve Got Answers.

Can you make custom fire department patches from an existing logo?

Yes. Send your current logo, a photo of an existing patch or a sketch. We prepare a digital mockup from it so you can check the layout, colors and lettering before anything is paid for.

What material works best for firefighter uniform patches?

Embroidered patches are the traditional choice for uniform sleeves and station jackets. If the design has very small lettering, woven can hold finer detail. Always follow your department’s uniform guidelines.

Can volunteer fire departments order custom patches?

Yes. Volunteer departments, auxiliaries and fire companies order the same way as any department, starting at 5 pieces.

Can we order patches with different station numbers?

Yes. Tell us how many versions you need and how many of each, and we will quote the set based on the artwork and quantities.

Do you make hook-and-loop fire rescue patches?

Yes. Hook-and-loop backing is available for embroidered, woven, printed and PVC patches and works well on compatible gear panels and bags. It carries a small per-patch surcharge.

Can we order anniversary or memorial patches?

Yes. Anniversary, memorial and tribute patches are common requests. We will work with you on respectful wording and details, and you approve the mockup before paying.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Custom patch orders start at 5 pieces. Larger quantities lower your per-piece price.

How long does production take?

Standard turnaround is 10 to 14 business days after sample approval. Rush production is available: 5 to 7 business days up to 250 pieces, 7 to 10 business days on larger runs.

Do we approve our design before payment?

Yes. You receive a free digital mockup within 24 hours and only pay once you approve it. After payment we make a real sample and send you a photo to approve before the full production run begins.

Can you reproduce an official fire department emblem?

We can produce an official department emblem when the order is placed by, or with written authorization from, the department or the agency that owns the insignia. Please confirm you have that permission before submitting official artwork.

Your Firehouse Has Its Own Story. Let’s Make a Patch That Shows It.
