Leather
Debossed leather reads as heritage rather than novelty. Works well for name and chest pieces on a leather vest.
Leather patchesWoven
Thinner and finer. Choose it when a script logo or small lettering would blur in embroidery.
Woven patchesPVC
Rubber that sheds rain and road grime. A practical choice for rain shells and pack panels.

Back
The largest piece on the vest. Usually well over the instant-pricing limit, so it follows the custom quote path.
Chest
Left or right chest, typically 3 to 4 inches wide. Name and initials sit here.
Front vest panels
Smaller marks stacked under the chest patch — years, routes, events.
Sleeve
Curved surface, so tall rectangles fight the seam. Keep them compact.
Side panels
Narrow vertical space; long, thin shapes work better than square ones.
Jackets
Textile jackets take sew-on cleanly; treated leather should always be sewn, never ironed.

Large back patches
Back pieces are the exception to instant pricing. Our calculator prices anything up to 4 inches on the longest side; a back patch is normally far bigger, so it goes through the custom quote path. Backing and attachment
Sew-on is the right answer for almost every vest and jacket. Hook-and-loop makes sense when a rider swaps marks between garments or events. Iron-on helps you position a patch on cotton or denim before stitching, but on riding gear treat it as a placement aid, not a permanent bond — and never iron treated leather.
- Sew-on is the only backing to trust on a vest that rides through weather and wind.
- Merrowed edges resist snagging when a jacket is pulled on and off repeatedly.
- UV-stable thread colors hold better than very bright neons over a full riding season.
- PVC and woven both stay flat under a jacket layer, where thick embroidery can bunch.

Rider patch questions
What backing should I use on a leather vest?
Sew-on. Iron-on adhesive does not bond reliably to treated leather and heat can mark the hide. Sewing is also the only attachment that survives long-term road use.
Can you make a large back patch?
Yes. Instant pricing covers up to 4 inches on the longest side, and most back pieces are bigger than that, so we quote them individually with your artwork and finished size.
What is the minimum order?
Every custom patch type starts at 5 pieces: embroidered, woven, printed, chenille, leather, PVC and glow-in-the-dark PVC. Larger quantities simply lower your per-piece price.
Can you work from a rough sketch?
Yes. Send whatever you have — a photo, a sketch or a file — and the mockup comes back as clean production artwork for you to approve.
Will the patch survive rain and washing?
Sewn embroidery and PVC both handle rain and normal washing. Wash inside out and skip high heat on the dryer to keep edges and adhesive intact.
How long does it take?
Standard turnaround is 10–14 business days after sample approval. You review and approve your free digital mockup before paying. After payment, we make a real sample and send you a photo of it to approve before the full production run begins.
